Campgrounds Open May 1

Bismarck Parks and Recreation District (BPRD) Reopening nine facilities on Friday, May 1 in accordance with North Dakota Governor Burgum’s Smart Restart protocols.

  • Capital Ice Complex
  • Capital Racquet & Fitness Center
  • Fore Seasons Center
  • Frances Leach High Prairie Arts & Science Complex
  • Nishu Bowman Indoor Archery Complex
  • VFW Sports Center
  • World War Memorial Building
  • BPRD Administrative Office.

Each facility will have North Dakota Department of Health and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) safety and cleaning guidelines in place. Signs with safety reminders will be posted at each facility. BPRD requires that people who are not feeling well do not visit any BPRD facility.

The facilities re-opening May 1 are as follows:

BSC Aquatic & Wellness Center, 1601 Canary Ave.

-The facility will open at 8am on May 1. Hours through May 31 are Monday-Thursday, 5:30am-10pm; Friday 5:30am-8pm; Saturday 7am-7pm and Sunday Noon-7 pm. Summer hours will take effect June 1.

-The fitness center is open. Social distancing is required when using weights or cardio equipment. As always, users are asked to wipe down equipment after a workout.

-Group fitness classes will resume May 4 in the fitness studio and are available on a first come-first served basis with limited enrollment and social distancing. Reservations for group fitness classes will not be taken. The group fitness schedule is available at www.bisparks.org.

-Epic Nutrition is open for walk-up and curbside delivery.

-The pools are not open at this time. Additional information is being gathered in this rapidly changing environment. More information will be provided as it is received and will be posted on the BPRD website.

-The community rooms and the Turtle Beach Playground will remain closed.

-The showers are closed at this time. Locker rooms are available for restroom use.

Capital Racquet & Fitness Center, 3200 N 10th St.

-The facility will open at 8am on May 1. Facility hours through May 31 are Monday-Thursday, 5:30am-10pm; Friday 5:30am-9pm; Saturday 7am-7pm and Sunday 10am-7 pm. Summer hours will take effect June 1.

-The tennis courts, pickleball courts and walking track are open. The racquetball courts are open, with one player allowed per court at this time.

-The birthday party rooms, sauna, hot tubs and showers are not available at this time. Locker rooms are available for restroom use.

Capital Ice Complex, 1504 Wichita Dr. and VFW Sports Center, 1200 N. Washington St.

-These facilities are open for dry floor events at this time. Ice activities will resume later this summer.

Fore Seasons Center, 2525 N. 19th St.

-Hours are 9am-9p, Monday through Sunday.

-The batting cage will be open 10am-7pm with social distancing protocols in place. The batting cage must be reserved in advance by calling 223-3600; no walk-ins will be allowed. The indoor driving range is open with social distancing measures in place. There will be 10 participants allowed on each Fore Season field at a time.

Nishu Bowmen Indoor Archery Complex, 1409 Riverwood Dr.

-This facility is open for all scheduled activities.

Frances Leach High Prairie Arts & Science Complex, 1810 Schafer St.

-This facility is open for activities scheduled by partner groups operating in this complex.

World War Memorial Building, 215 N 6th St.

Hours through May 25 are Monday-Thursday, 10am-9pm, Friday 10am-6pm and closed Saturday and Sunday. Summer hours will take effect May 26.

-The basketball/volleyball courts are open with monitored social distancing. Protocols are in place for programs being held on site.

-The Imagination Playground is closed at this time.

BPRD Administrative Office, 400 E. Front Ave.

Hours are Monday- Friday, 7:30am-5pm.

-Social distancing guidelines are in place. Registration for summer programs is available online at www.bisparks.org. Reservations for indoor community rooms or outdoor picnic shelters can be made by calling 222-6455.

Campgrounds Set to Open

BPRD managed campgrounds at General Sibley Park and Campground and Eagles Park and Campground open on Friday, May 1.

General Sibley Park and Campground, 5001 S. Washington St.

-The campground office will be open with limited access. Reservations can be made online at www.bisparks.org or via phone at 222-1844.

Campers are asked to camp with households. Safety protocols are in place in the restroom building. Signs with guidelines will be posted on site. Campsites allow for social distancing and campers are encouraged to keep groups to 10 or less and maintain social distancing with other campers.

Eagles Park and Campground, 10900 NW Highway 1804

-Campsites are undesignated and are on a first-come, first served basis. Reservations can be made by calling 222-6455.

Primitive camping is available at these Burleigh County Parks:

Steckel Boat Landing, 292nd Avenue NW; off 1804; Kimball Bottom Recreation Area, 10601 Desert Road and Kniefel Boat Landing, 5716 Misty Waters Dr.

Sites are non-reservable and are available on a first come, first served basis. No fee is charged for camping. Campers should allow for social distancing when parking and are encouraged to maintain social distancing with other campers.

BPRD Golf Course Pro Shops Open

All BPRD golf courses are open with social distancing practices in place. The previously set golf course safety protocols remain in place with tee times being made online or via phone, one person per golf cart and outdoor check-ins. The Pebble Creek Golf Course, Tom O’Leary Golf Course and Riverwood Golf Course pro shops will open May 1 with limited access and social distancing guidelines.

Other BPRD outdoor recreation and BPRD summer programming

All BPRD parks, playgrounds, recreational trails, picnic shelters, and boat ramps remain open, with a reminder to practice social distancing. Outdoor tennis courts are open, and all have signs with safety protocols listed. Sand volleyball nets will be placed in the near future.

Plans are in progress to provide safe summer programming and the opening of outdoor pools. Additional information will be announced on the BPRD website, www.bisparks.org.
